moated castle Wittringen
Wittringen, once knight’s seat and surge chamber, lies in the heart of Gladbeck. In this oasis of calm and tranquility, visitors are taken back to the time when the castle was first built. It was initially mentioned in records in 1263 and, after an eventful history, was purchased with all its buildings, 450 acres of farmland and woods by the town of Gladbeck in 1922. The manor house and today’s palace building with its towers was restored according to the original plans in Lower Rhine Renaissance style. Since 1928, the house offers catering in exclusive public rooms.
